For this project in Singapore, the machinery had to pass under a bay with difficult geology, in order to drill 2 tunnels for cables. At the same time, a horizontal and a vertical curve had to be drilled (a space curve).
The client decided to use a Herrenknecht EPB2000. The use of soil conditioning agents permitted a secure advance through limestone, loam, fine sand and silt. To counteract the heavy wear on the disks in the heterogeneous geology, additional wear plates were welded onto the cutterhead.
