Germany Esplanade in Chongqing.

April 30, 2008. “Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together“ is a program of events enhancing the cultural, political and economic dialogue between the countries and their people. From May 9 through 17, 2008, the event will be hosted in Chongqing, Southwest China, under the joint patronage of Federal President Horst Köhler and Chinese President Hu Jintao. It is presented by the German Foreign Office, the Goethe-Institut, the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) and the “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative. The Germany Esplanade on Dali Tang Square in downtown Chongqing offers an extraordinary blend of art, culture, science and technological top performances with a focus on the themes “Sustainable Urban Development” and “Education”.

After its successful participation last October in Nanjing, Herrenknecht is again station partner of this year’s Germany Esplanade. Herrenknecht presents trendsetting, cutting-edge technology used for the construction of infrastructure such as traffic as well as supply and disposal tunnels. Chongqing’s sewage system – Chongqing is the largest metropolis in the world with 32 million inhabitants – was already modernized with the aid of Herrenknecht technology. The largest Gripper TBM (12,400mm diameter) ever manufactured by Herrenknecht will start tunnelling this year west of Chongqing as part of the Jinping Hydropower Project.
