HERRENKNECHT BELONGS TO THE BEST COMPANIES IN GERMANY.
The accounting and consulting firm Ernst & Young awarded the best German mid-sized entrepreneurs for the eleventh time. More than 350 nominees for the renowned prize in economics “Entrepreneur of the Year 2007” were picked through a rigorous multiple-step selection process. Dr. Martin Herrenknecht reached second place in the category “Industry” with its company Herrenknecht AG during the final competition held at the Old Opera House in Frankfurt (Germany).
Frankfurt, October 20, 2007. Herrenknecht AG, represented by Dr. Martin Herrenknecht, was among the finalists in this year’s “Entrepreneur of the Year 2007” competition together with 97 other companies. The entrepreneurs, as representatives of their companies, were picked through a rigorous multiple-step selection process out of a group of 350 nominees. An independent jury, consisting of high-profile members, awarded the second prize in the category “Industry” to the entrepreneur Dr. Martin Herrenknecht during a gala held at the Old Opera House in Frankfurt last night. Selected as a finalist, Herrenknecht now belongs to the strongest growing and most innovative companies in Germany. “The finalists mostly operate in lucrative niche markets of their industrial sector showing considerable growth rates,” resumes Wolfgang Glauner organizer and project manager of the prize.
Herrenknecht is an example of this. The turnover of the Herrenknecht Group rose 27.5 percent to EUR 646 million in 2006 and the average number of employees increased 11 percent to 1,849. This year, the company continues to grow. In August 2007, order intake surpassed last year’s level (EUR 705 million). Since tunnelling technology will continue to be in great demand in the foreseeable future in the construction of supply and disposal infrastructure as well as traffic tunnels, Herrenknecht increases the number of staff at its headquarters in Schwanau (South Germany) and in its 30 subsidiaries located in Germany and abroad. In August, a total of 2,257 employees worked for the Herrenknecht Group – not including 137 trainees and cooperative education students.
Dr. Martin Herrenknecht, who just recently received the Officer’s Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, passes the nomination as finalist for the “Entrepreneur of the Year 2007” award on to its company, “We are able to perform above average solely due to the excellent work of my colleagues from the Board of Management, senior management and our employees.”
