Nanjing / Schwanau, October 25, 2007. Last weekend, the campaign »Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together« was opened staging the main event »German Esplanade« on Daxinggong Square at the Nanjing Library. Under the theme »Sustainable Solutions« Herrenknecht participates, for the first time, as Station Partner in the event series, which lasts more than three years. In its own pavilion, designed by the artist Markus Heinsdorff, Herrenknecht shows trendsetting high technology for the construction of traffic as well as supply and disposal tunnel infrastructure. The entire event, which is accompanied by a number of premium German-Chinese cultural events, is greatly appealing to the population of Nanjing attracting numerous visitors during weekend and evening hours. The central themes include innovative visions for urban life in large metropolises and the sustainable improvement of urban life conditions. Beside Herrenknecht, several other renowned German companies take part in the campaign – including BASF, Bosch and SIEMENS. Herrenknecht will also be represented at the next stations of the »German Esplanade« in the cities Guangzhou and Chengdu in 2008 and in Shanghai in 2010.

Next week, one of the world’s largest tunnel boring machines – developed and manufactured by Herrenknecht – will start tunnelling in Nanjing. The Mixshield with a diameter of 14.93m will cross the Yangtze River on an approximately 3-km long section starting on »Jiangxinzhou Island«. Together with an identical shield machine, two giant parallel tunnel tubes will be bored, linking the northern part of Nanjing to road traffic.
