Heavy Duty Equipment: Herrenknecht provides the first 400t HDD Rig for rental.
Three years after entering the market, Herrenknecht AG has made a name for themselves as manufacturer of efficient HDD equipments for all applications - proven by a large number of reference projects in Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Asia. Up to now, 15 Maxi and Mega-Rigs with a pull-force of 100 to 400t have been ordered respectively delivered. The deployed equipments proved themselves even under the hardest conditions, e.g. in Siberia below minus 40 degrees centigrade. On a global scale, there is a large number of upcoming projects that can only be carried out with particularly efficient HDD equipments in the field of underground pipeline construction.
Even leading specialized companies in the HDD business do not always have the relevant drilling equipment at hand. Particularly, when the equipment cannot immediately be amortized during a corresponding number of new projects. Herrenknecht AG is the first manufacturer renting heavy duty HDD equipment, with a pull-force of up to 400t, so that companies with specific requirements can acquire bids for projects, without buying the necessary equipment. With the modular designed HDD Rig >>HK400M<< diameters >1.20m can be drilled with a drilling length of more than 1,500m. Herrenknecht AG also provides experienced operators on demand.
The rental price of the equipment includes a lump sum for the so-called mobilization that is charged for the adaptation of the drilling equipment to the specific project requirements on site. A customized spare-part and wear-part-package will be provided and delivered together with the HDD Rig. In addition to the mobilization costs, a variable rental charge will be raised for the transport- and operation days. The costs for possible reconditioning and repair works after operation, will be charged on a time and material basis ? after agreement with the lessee.
The modular designed HK400M drilling equipment consists of the drill rig, the control cabin and two power packs with an installed power of 940kW. The complete equipment can be shipped around the globe in 6 x 20?-containers (without CSC). Modular Herrenknecht HDD Rigs are a unique and approved innovation in the HDD product range. For worldwide deliveries at short notice, the drilling equipment has been designed on a modular basis. The rigs consist of three separate modules. The modules have maximum weights of 20t and can simply be plugged and fastened to each other on site. The modular design offers cost and time advantages during the installation on site and the entire transport of the equipment. In places with poor access, e.g. densely built-up areas in urban regions, the modular units can be assembled and commissioned without the need of mobile cranes. Through a remote-controlled crawler, the equipment can be transported to the site.
In the near future, Herrenknecht will add further components to the rental-park range. A clamp- and push-unit is currently being built, the so-called Pipe-Thruster. It can support the rig with an additional push force of up to 5,000kN during pullback. This auxiliary equipment will probably be available as of mid 2005.
