MIXSHIELDS

Specialists in mixed-face, complex geologies, very high water pressures and very large diameters (up to 19 meters).

  • Precise support of the tunnel face by means of closed-mode, slurry-supported tunnelling with controllable compressed air bubble
  • Rapid change of the tunnelling mode for different geological conditions (flexible mode combination) possible with convertible Mixshields

EPB SHIELDS

Fast and safe in soft ground. Ideal for cohesive and non-cohesive soils with high clay and silt content and low permeability.

  • Very high tunnelling performances in classic EPB soils
  • Suitable for non-cohesive, water-bearing soils up to a maximum of 4.5 bar using soil conditioning with surfactant foam
  • Suitable for use in heterogeneous soils with a mainly granular consistency using soil conditioning with surfactants and polymers
  • Largest machine diameter to date: 15.20 meters

GRIPPER TBMs

Uncompromising in hard rock. Optimum solution for tunnelling through stable, solid rock formations.

  • Maximum contact pressures for high tunneling performances even for large diameters, rock strengths of up to 280MPa and high overburdens
  • Comprehensive mechanized rock-support methods allow rapid securing of the excavated tunnel, approx. 4 meters behind the cutterhead
  • High level of working safety for all operators
  • Largest machine diameter to date: 12.40 meters

SINGLE SHIELD TBMs

The right choice for brittle rock and/or soft rock.

  • Very broad and safe range of uses in hard rock with shield tunnelling and lining segments

DOUBLE SHIELD TBMs

Herrenknecht has developed a new generation of separation plants with multi-step processes that are optimally adapted to mechanized tunnelling.

The world’s two largest tunnel boring machines accomplished their missions 10 and 12 months ahead of schedule, respectively.

Herrengosserstedt, Germany – Finne Tunnel – Week 35, 2008 and Week 47, 2009.

Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona Metro Line 9 – Week 10, 2009.

On March 7, 2009, the machine reached its best daily performance of 69 meters.

Cabrera, Spain – Cabrera Tunnel – Week 30, 2008.

The machine has excavated a total of 1,688 meters in July 2008.
