Mechanical transportation.

The material excavated by the TBM can be transported further through the tunnel tube using conveyor belts, railroad carriages, trucks or by adding a liquid, and then conveyed through the slurry lines with the aid of muck pumps. It is a similar story when tunnelling through hard rock. The excavated rock is guided to the center of the cutter head through guide channels by buckets fitted on the cutter head and then transferred to a conveyor belt. The material is then transported in the tunnel on other conveyor belt systems, railroad carriages or trucks.

Fixed conveyor belts outside the tunnel can even take the excavated material directly to a nearby quarry or a disposal plant and so spare surrounding areas to a great extent from construction traffic and noise emissions.

See the website of our subsidiary H+E Logistik (www.helogistik.de) for further information on conveyor belt systems.
