A »TBM« Herrenknecht Utility Tunnelling Machine is best suited for tunnelling in homogeneous and stable geologies. It is a simple and inexpensive solution for microtunnelling excavations above the groundwater table. Depending on the soil characteristics and geological conditions, the Utility Tunnelling Machine is equipped with a specially adapted hard rock cutterhead. On a conveyor belt, the excavated rock is transported to a muck skip in the rear working area of the Utility Tunnelling Machine – from where it is hoisted to the surface.

Single Shield TBM for the construction of supply and disposal tunnels are available in the diameter range of 1.2 to 4.2 meters. They are remote-controlled to tackle inaccessible or only limitedly accessible diameters and can bore their way through formations with maximum rock strengths. In many cases, a Herrenknecht Single Shield TBM is simply the best solution for most of our customers.
