________________ Tunnel boring machines must reach their destination safely and accurately. With state-of- the-art process and control technology, the TBM operator in the control cabin has everything under control during tunnelling operations and knows the exact machine position. From here he operates the steering cylinders and maneuvers the machine with absolute precision through the underground. The equipment depends to a great extent on customer requirements. Sensors and measuring devices record the relevant tunnelling parameters, such as speed, drive torque, cutting wheel contact pressure or the support pressure in the excavation chamber. Computer-supported applications compare the measured values with the target values. If tolerances are exceeded, alert messages are displayed and the TBM operator can intervene to avoid subsidence and heaves.
For non-accessible tunnels and projects in the smaller diameter range, the control container can be disconnected from the TBM via a bus system and placed at the launch shaft if there are space constraints in the machine.
