Bangalore is located in southern India, about 350 kilometers west of Chennai, and is a major technology and innovation hub, often referred to as the "Silicon Valley of India." Due to its booming IT industry, the city has been experiencing strong population growth for decades, leading to an increasing strain on urban infrastructure.
The Phase 2 of the Bangalore Metro, known as Namma Metro, is a significant expansion of the city's rail transit system aimed at greatly improving the transportation infrastructure in Bengaluru. This project includes the construction of new lines and the extension of existing routes to increase mobility and alleviate urban traffic congestion. Currently, 58.19 kilometers of metro network are being developed, with 58 stations.
For this construction project, five Herrenknecht machines were ordered, all of which began tunneling in 2021 and achieved breakthrough in 2024.
Overall, Phase 2 of the Bangalore Metro represents a significant step towards a modern and efficient urban transportation infrastructure that meets the needs of the growing population.
