Cairo Metro Line 4 is a forward-looking expansion of Cairo’s metro network, designed to efficiently connect Greater Cairo from west to east. The route extends from the Haram district to the New Cairo district, crossing both branches of the Nile.
Spanning a total length of 42 kilometers with 39 stations—37 underground and 2 above ground—Line 4 will play a key role in sustainably improving urban mobility. Passenger operations are scheduled to begin in February 2028, with an expected daily capacity of up to 2 million commuters.
Four high-performance Herrenknecht tunnel boring machines are being deployed for tunnel construction. They commenced excavation at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, ensuring efficient and precise tunneling under challenging geological conditions.
With the addition of Line 4, Cairo’s transportation infrastructure will be significantly enhanced. The new line will help meet the rising demand for mobility, reduce congestion, and contribute to improving air quality across the metropolitan region.
