Athens Metro Line 4
Greece, Athens
2022 – today

After Herrenknecht technology had already been used for the extension of the Athens metro lines 2 and 3 as well as the metro in Thessaloniki, experienced tunnel builders are now again relying on machines manufactured in Schwanau for the new construction of Line 4 in Athens: Two EPB Shields (Ø 9,480mm) are boring a total of 12.35 kilometers of tunnel between Veikou and Katehaki for the first section. Multi-service vehicles from the Group company TMS ensure smooth material and personnel logistics on the construction site. In June and August 2022, respectively, both EPB Shields successfully passed factory acceptance. For almost 500 million metro users per year to date, the new Line 4 will provide an additional attractive service.
