To coincide with the Chinese New Year in 2022, the world’s first underground parking garage built using Herrenknecht’s proprietary VSM mechanized shaft sinking technology went into operation in Nanjing. The Herrenknecht U-Park concept includes the construction of the two shafts (diameter 12 m, depth 65 m) and the installation of the automated parking system. The two shafts sunk in Nanjing can each accommodate a total of 100 vehicles on 25 levels. VSM technology is particularly suitable for shaft sinking in extremely cramped inner-city conditions. The first shaft was completed in February 2021, the second in May 2021. Installation of the parking system was completed by the end of 2021.
