Natura 2000 crossing
Netherlands, Giesbeek
2021

Laying power cables in a Natura 2000 nature reserve calls for innovative solutions. The hybrid version of the Herrenknecht HDD rig HK150T is one. A diesel power pack is only needed to position the rig on the jobsite. Operation is then completely electric: no exhaust fumes, less noise, significantly less environmental impact. For the installation of protective pipes (DN200) for three 10kV cables near Giesbeek over a distance of 583 m and at depths of up to 48 m, Herrenknecht also installed a new type of Eco Mode that curbs energy consumption. Within just four days, drilling was completed in October 2021.
