Eastside LRT Project Los Angeles
United States, Los Angeles, CA
2006

Los Angeles' metro and LRT network had six lines. The Gold Line connects Pasadena with the Union Station in downtown LA. What was missing is the extension of the LRT to East Los Angeles. In Boyle Hights the streets are so narrow that the new line had to be built underground along First Street. This was the job for "Lola" and "Vickey".

The two machines had to be extensively protected against firedamp, because of the methane expected in Los Angeles' underground. The protection concerned the motors, but every single switch as well. The screw conveyor did not unload onto the usual belt conveyor but was connected to another srew conveyor that ended at the end of the better ventilated gantry.

In December and November 2006, "Lola" and "Vickey" successfully completed their tunnel drives.
