Havel River Culvert
Germany, Berlin
2009

Berlin planned to extend the district heating grid. To this end, a tunnel needed to cross under the River Havel to connect approx. 50,000 apartments in Spandau with the existing grid. The plan envisaged a 110.20-meter length for the crossing.

A Herrenknecht micromachine bored the section under the River Havel in a clean-cut and precise manner within eight working days. A total of 38 concrete elements each of a 2.60-meter diameter were pushed through under the river.
