244.5 meters per day - this is the peak performance that was bored by the Herrenknecht EPB Shield S-302 into the underground of Madrid. The excavation of 4.3 kilometers of tunnel for the extension of the Metro Line 3 took only ten months. Since 1996, Herrenknecht EPB Shields had been empolyed in 13 projects with a total length of excavation of almost 63 kilometers. For the extension of the Line 3 only, eight Herrenknecht EPB Shields with diameters between 8,900mm and 9,370mm had been on their way.

2.5 million people per day use the Spanish capital's metro network that is one of the world's longest with a length of approx. 300 kilometers in total.
