Munich Moosach
Germany, Munich
2007 – 2008

A new metro link was being built in the north of Munich, the Bavarian capital. Construction Lot 2 chiefly consists of two metro stations (Moosach and Leipziger Straße) which a parallel running twin tunnel connects and which again are linked eastwards to the operating "Olympia Einkaufszentrum" station by means of a twin tunnel.

The Mixshield S-344 started tunnelling on May 26, 2007. In order to be able to cope with the minimal radius of 725 meters and the tight radii in the stations, the Mixshield was equipped with a tailskin articulation. A hydraulic stone crusher was installed in the invert section of the excavation chamber in front of the grid, capable of handling boulders with a length of up to 0.5 meters.

The first section involved the northern tube which was successfully terminated on October 23, 2007 with its connection to the outer slurry wall of the "Olympia Einkaufszentrum" station. Following dismantling of the TBM and its rebuilding in the Moosach station, there was nothing to stop work on the southern tube starting on February 5, 2008. With 2,268 meters of advance behind it, the TBM reached its final position on June 21, 2008 at the outer slurry wall of the "Olympia Einkaufszentrum" station.
