New Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Railway Project
China, Zhanjiang
2021 – today

A new railroad line will connect Guangzhou and Zhanjiang in the future. An underwater tunnel with a length of 8,230 meters and a maximum depth of 50 meters is to be built in Zhanjiang Bay. It begins in Zhanjiang, Haidong New District, runs along the Zhanjiang Bay Bridge after Dongcheng West Road and Longwangwan Road at a distance of 90 to 260 meters and finally passes under Leshang Road, close to the city's pipeline network. The construction company has chosen a Herrenknecht Mixshield with a diameter of 14.3 meters and named it "Yongxing" for the comparatively long 7,352-meter tunnel section. This is already the twentieth large-diameter TBM from Herrenknecht for this experienced customer.

Thanks to optimum logistics planning, the Mixshield was installed on the construction site within a very short time after factory acceptance. Wear-resistant pipes, optimized flushing of the cutting wheel center and a vertical drum crusher will prevent manganese nodules from becoming lodged in the overburden. The cutter tools, which are subject to greater wear in the clayey-sandy soil, can be changed under atmospheric pressure on the Herrenknecht Mixshield.

After completion of the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang line, over 420 kilometers of railroad will connect the cities of Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqiang, Yunfu, Yangjiang, Maoming and Zhanjiang, among others.
