Rio Chira Crossing
Peru, Piura
2021

In the region of Piura in Peru a 6’’ PE protection pipe for a data line and a 10’’ steel pipeline got installed with the help of a HK300T HDD Rig. The construction company Conveca had to cross the Rio Chira over a length of 2x 2,000m without the support of an Anti-Rig. Herrenknecht also delivered a mobile break out unit and a high-pressure pump aggregate.

With the length and geology came several challenges, that Conveca and its project partners OPTIMUM (engineering), BM Drilling (staff support and consulting) und IDS (drilling equipment) mastered excellently. Measurements were taken like the installation of a High-Torque Upgrade on the Rig by the Herrenknecht service specialists, the carry out of a hydrofracture prediction and the purchase of technical equipment, to increase the pace and safety of the drill. For example, a new type of casing was used during the project. It is equipped with a special quick-coupling system that allows a safe connection of the casing pipes within 5 minutes.
