Singapore Thomson-East Coast Line
Singapore
2018 – 2019

Singapore's tunnel builders are working hard to keep the Lion City's infrastructure modern and efficient, whether it's new underground power lines, expanding the water supply and sewage disposal system or extending the subway network.

The Thomson-East Coast Line will connect eastern neighborhoods such as Tanjong Rhu, Marine Parade and Bedok South to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) metro network. Over a total length of 43 kilometers, 31 new stations will be built and gradually commissioned from 2019, when they will be served by driverless trains. The planners initially expect up to 500,000 passengers, later rising to up to 1,000,000 passengers – per day.

Construction phase T307 will see the development of Marine Parade Station as well as several tunnel structures. Herrenknecht is supplying three EPB Shields for this, each measuring 6.67 meters in diameter, which must prove themselves in complex geology: the sections to be excavated run through reclaimed land on the coast, which is densely populated with residential buildings and offices.

The last of the three EPB Shields reached the successful breakthrough in September 2019.
