Utility Tunnelling customer training

Optimal knowledge transfer thanks to training directly on the product

The task

In most cases, tunnelling technology offered by Herrenknecht is adapted specifically to the respective project requirements and customer requests. As preparation for efficient tunnelling, many customers therefore request extensive training of their TBM crews during the course of TBM factory acceptance in Schwanau or assembly on site.

„TBM are very complex systems. Which is why training for structural engineering and site personnel definitely makes sense. After all, the manufacturer is the one who is most familiar with his own product.“

Dipl.-Ing. Ziga Skrjanc, Braumann Tiefbau GmbH

The Herrenknecht service solution

Herrenknecht offers comprehensive training in an effort to optimally prepare the customer’s site crew for challenges arising during tunnelling. Such training can be conducted in compressed blocks during the course of TBM factory acceptance in Schwanau or tailored to specific project requirements on site during site assembly.

During training in smaller groups, participants instructed by experienced experts learn about the relevant modules such as operation, electrical and mechanical systems, hydraulics, geotechnology, bentonite application or their TBM's monitoring system. Through early theoretical and practical knowledge transfer directly on the product, the customer’s crew is eminently familiar with the machine’s functions and particular features as well as being ideally prepared for the project at hand. Where necessary, service experts from Herrenknecht remain available in an advisory capacity during tunnelling. As people get to know each other during training, have developed mutual trust and speak the same “language”, in many cases contact by phone suffices which makes coordination during ongoing projects even faster and more feasible.

Furthermore, Herrenknecht meanwhile offers regular compact training weeks at its headquarters in Germany. These are aligned toward all customer employees who wish to update their technical knowledge or are interested in best-practice examples from current sites. These training courses often see participants from various customer companies convening in Schwanau. One positive benefit is represented by direct communication concerning pending projects and the latest developments on the market.

Project advantages

  • Intensive training permits swift familiarization with the machine’s functions.

  • Training on the machine optimally prepares personnel for tunnelling.

  • Start-up problems during tunnelling are reduced by targeted training courses.

  • Many customers appreciate the casual and competent exchanges with Herrenknecht trainers, most of whom were previously employed in operations and are therefore eminently familiar with the respective requirements and challenges.

„Due to increasing demands by clients and ever more complex projects, we are obliged to train our employees on a regular basis. For this reason, training offered by the machine manufacturer for machine operators, hydraulics engineers and electricians is very important. After all, numerous projects mean that the manufacturer knows his systems best and is able to provide targeted support as required.“
